Why this changes everything

Without registration, you can ask. With registration, you can demand.

πŸ“€

Without registration

When your content gets leaked, you can send DMCA takedowns. Compliant sites remove. Adversarial ones ignore. You have no financial recourse, actual damages are hard to prove and rarely worth the legal cost.

βš–οΈ

With registration

Every DMCA carries statutory damages ($750-$30,000 per work; up to $150,000 if willful). Sites act faster. Individual leakers face real financial exposure. Your legal footing goes from β€œplease” to β€œpay or defend.”

FAQ

Questions we get a lot.

What am I actually buying?

Federal copyright registration of your content with the US Copyright Office. We handle the entire filing process on your behalf. You upload the works and provide the metadata, we submit the paperwork, and the USCO issues your certificate. Once registered, every DMCA takedown notice you send about that content gains the ability to claim statutory damages up to $30,000 per infringement (or $150,000 if willful). That completely changes the conversation with leak sites and individual leakers.

Why does registration matter if I already own the copyright?

You automatically own the copyright to anything you create. That's true. But to sue for STATUTORY damages under 17 U.S.C. Β§ 504(c), the work must be registered with the US Copyright Office BEFORE the infringement occurs (or within 3 months of first publication). Without registration, you can only sue for actual damages, which are extremely hard to prove and often not worth pursuing. With registration, you have automatic access to a $750-$30,000 damages range that a court sets. That's the difference between 'please stop' and 'pay me.' For a deeper walkthrough of exactly how this changes DMCA leverage plus real ROI math, see our full guide: [Copyright Registration for Creators: The $30,000 Legal Weapon Almost No One Uses](/articles/copyright-registration-creators-2026-guide).

How does the Photo Group Registration work?

USCO offers a special filing type called Group Registration for Published Photographs (GRPPH) that lets you register up to 750 photos in a single filing for one flat USCO fee. All photos must share the same author and calendar year of first publication. This is the killer product for creators with existing photo libraries. A photographer with 500 photos can register the entire library for $299 total. Same statutory damages protection per photo as an individual registration.

Will my real name appear anywhere public?

No. We file under a pseudonymous registration, which means your stage name appears on the public USCO record and your real name is submitted privately (required for the filing to be legally valid) but never shown to third parties. This is the standard filing path for adult content creators and is fully supported by USCO.

How long does it take?

We file with USCO within 5 business days of your upload. USCO's own processing time is 3-9 months before they issue the certificate, and that's outside our control. IMPORTANT: your copyright protection begins the moment we file, not when the certificate arrives. Every DMCA you send between filing and certificate issuance can already invoke statutory damages.

What if USCO rejects the filing?

Rare, but it happens (~15% of first-time filings). Usually it's a metadata issue we can fix and refile. If we can't get it registered for any reason on our end, we refund your Privly fee and refile at no extra cost. Genuine USCO-side rejection (e.g., work doesn't qualify for copyright) is refunded.

Can I register content that's already leaked?

Yes, and you should. Registration protects you against FUTURE infringement, including future leaks and reuploads of already-leaked content. It also strengthens your position against ongoing distribution. But note: to claim statutory damages against a SPECIFIC prior infringement, the work must have been registered before that infringement occurred. So registration protects against everything that happens from filing day forward.

Do I need to be a Privly subscriber?

No. Copyright Registration is a one-off product. Anyone can buy it, including creators who've never heard of Privly before. If you ARE a Privly subscriber, registered works integrate automatically with your DMCA workflow: every takedown notice we send about a registered work carries a statutory damages threat. Not a subscriber? You can still register, and every takedown you file yourself gains the same legal firepower.

Every day you wait is another day of losing damages leverage.

Statutory damages apply from the moment you file, not when the certificate arrives. Registering today means every leak, every reupload, and every future DMCA carries teeth.
