OnlyFans and Fansly are the two dominant creator platforms for adult content, yet they take fundamentally different approaches to content protection. While OnlyFans dominates in subscriber numbers, Fansly has built its reputation partly on stronger security infrastructure from day one. Understanding the differences between these platforms' built-in protections is critical for creators choosing where to host their most valuable content.

OnlyFans offers basic watermarking capabilities that add your profile information to downloaded content, making it traceable back to you if it appears elsewhere. However, this watermarking is optional and not always enabled by default, leaving many creators' content unprotected. The platform does provide DMCA takedown support, allowing creators to request removal of leaked content from third-party sites, but the process can be slow and reactive rather than preventative. OnlyFans has no native DRM (Digital Rights Management) system that prevents screen recording or advanced capture methods—subscribers can record your streams and captures your images with readily available tools.

Fansly took a different approach by implementing stronger default protections on its platform. The platform automatically applies watermarking to all content, making every image and video traceable to the subscriber who downloaded it. Fansly also provides better forensic watermarking options, which can be used to identify exactly which subscriber leaked content, making it easier to pursue legal action against repeat offenders. Like OnlyFans, Fansly supports DMCA takedowns, but creators report the process is more streamlined and the platform's support team is more responsive.

Neither platform can prevent screen recording entirely without significantly restricting the viewing experience, which is why relying solely on platform-level protection is insufficient. Both OnlyFans and Fansly rely on creators being proactive about protecting their own content through external tools. This is where products like Privly become essential—they add a second layer of protection that works across both platforms, providing additional watermarking, viewer analytics, and link expiration features that the platforms themselves don't offer.

The reality is that platform choice alone won't protect your content from determined thieves. Creators who use OnlyFans report significant leak problems because many subscribers know the platform's built-in protections are minimal. Fansly's stronger defaults reduce casual leaks, but sophisticated bad actors still find ways around platform protection. The most successful creators on both platforms treat platform-level security as a baseline and layer additional protection on top using specialized content protection tools.

When choosing between OnlyFans and Fansly from a security perspective, Fansly has a slight edge with better watermarking and faster DMCA support. However, both platforms require you to be proactive. If content protection is a priority, don't base your platform choice solely on native security features—instead, choose the platform with the best business model for your content and subscribers, then add external protection like Privly to ensure consistent, comprehensive security across all your content streams.
